Cyber Resiliency Office for Weapon Systems
Katie Whatmore is a Systems Engineer at the Cyber Resiliency Office for Weapon Systems, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Responsibilities of her current duty position include leading Systems Security Engineering (SSE) team of diverse engineers, computer scientists, and acquisition security specialists to provide SSE guidance to the Department of the Air Force. She is responsible for the content within the DAF SSE Cyber Guidebook, as well as the technical content in associated training.
Prior to her current position, Mrs. Whatmore was the Health Care Delivery branch chief within AFRL’s 711th Human Performance. During her time as branch chief, Mrs. Whatmore was responsible for managing a government/contractor team of 30 multidisciplinary staff, defining operational and logistical processes, mentoring personnel in Human Systems Integration (HSI) and Systems Engineering (SE), communicating to air staff and senior leadership, and collaborating with the US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine to develop training for 2,000 airmen.
Additionally, Mrs. Whatmore spent approximately five years as an HSI engineer for the Department of the Navy. While with the Navy, she was the HSI lead for four different electronic warfare programs. She also supported HSI and systems safety efforts for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (a joint program between Navy, Marine Corps, and Army).
While pursuing her undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering, Mrs. Whatmore participated in three different engineering co-ops in the private sector. She was a process engineer for Boston Scientific, a quality assurance engineer for Atricure Inc., and a research and development engineer for Ethicon Endo-Surgery.
